A Bed & Breakfast for Bees
Updated: Jul 26, 2018
Did you know there's a simple way to boost pollinators in your yard and help boost local bee populations all in one go?
Solitary Mason bees and leafcutter bees seek out or dig small tunnels which they fill with food (pollen) for their young which they seal off to protect them from predators. Some retailers have started carrying pre-made bee hotels to let homeowners have an easy way to promote healthy pollinator populations right in their backyard! These bees are generally docile, as their solitary efforts to raise young rely entirely on their survival, they refrain from risking their lives with aggressive stinging behavior.
If you're more the do-it-yourself type, there are also many resources online to show you how you too can build an inexpensive and helpful home for these flying friends!
